Eylea® HD
For patients with wet age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, or retinal vein occlusion, Eylea® HD (high-dose aflibercept) offers a newer option in retinal therapy. Eylea HD is a higher-dose formulation of the original Eylea, designed to provide the same effectiveness while potentially reducing the number of injections required over time.
How Eylea HD Works
Like standard Eylea, Eylea HD is an anti-VEGF drug that blocks the overproduction of VEGF in the retina. This helps prevent the growth of fragile, leaky blood vessels that damage vision. The difference is in the dosing: Eylea HD delivers a higher concentration of medication, which may allow some patients to extend the time between treatments while maintaining strong disease control.
What to Expect During Treatment
The treatment process is the same as with standard Eylea injections. The surface of your eye will be cleaned and numbed before the injection, which takes just a few moments. Most patients report minimal discomfort, and side effects are generally mild, such as temporary irritation or redness. Because of its higher dose, Eylea HD may enable longer intervals between visits—sometimes every 8 to 16 weeks after the initial treatment period.
Benefits of Eylea HD
The biggest advantage of Eylea HD is convenience. For many patients, fewer injections mean fewer office visits, while still protecting their vision effectively. This can make it easier to stick with long-term treatment, which is critical in preserving sight for retinal disease patients.
At East Florida Eye Institute, we are proud to offer Eylea HD injections as part of our comprehensive retinal services. Our doctors carefully evaluate each patient’s condition and determine whether Eylea HD is the best option for them. With advanced imaging technology, personalized treatment schedules, and a compassionate team, we are here to help you achieve the best possible outcomes while making the process as convenient as possible.
